Overview
The whole-cluster health page, with the protection banner, link diagram, summary tiles, what needs attention, the nodes at a glance and recent activity.
Virtual machines
Create, start, stop, edit, clone, move, snapshot and delete VMs, pass USB devices through, and force-start a VM after a failure.
Containers
Linux system containers next to your VMs - when to choose one, how to create one, and what works differently from a VM.
Importing from VMware and VirtualBox
Move a VM from VMware (Workstation, Fusion, ESXi) or VirtualBox into staxmax - what to export, how the import works, and what to check on its first boot.
Consoles and files
Reach a VM's serial terminal, its screen, a root shell and its files from the browser, and read its boot log.
Images
The cloud image catalog, ISO installers (upload or download from a URL), the VirtIO drivers for Windows, and images saved from your own VMs.
Nodes
Read each node's health, rename it, set heartbeat paths and a smart plug, add a node, and retire one for good.
Maintenance mode
Empty a node before a reboot, BIOS update or hardware change, and move its VMs back afterwards.
Backups
Nightly VM exports to a USB drive, an NFS or SMB share, or a folder; encrypted offsite copies to S3-compatible storage such as Backblaze B2 or Wasabi or to an SFTP server; retention, backing up on demand, and restoring a backup as a new VM.
Alarms and notifications
See what is wrong in the cluster, and send alarms by email (SMTP) and text message (Telnyx).
Updates
Update every node to a new staxmax release, one at a time, by hand or automatically in a time window, or from a file on an offline site.
License
Up to 3 nodes are free; a license key adds a seat for each node beyond that. Enter it once for the whole cluster, or license a site without internet with a file.
Settings
Cluster-wide settings, including replication interval, failover delay, tiebreaker, backup storage, offsite backups, new-VM defaults, notifications, updates and the admin password.
