First-run checklist
Start with an installed recorder, following installation and commissioning. Use this checklist for the first session and customer handoff.
After the first sign-in, the setup wizard walks through detection, initial storage and an optional AI provider. Each step saves when you continue; drives are never formatted. You can continue while detection hardware needs attention, finish later, and resume from the setup reminder or Settings → Setup. A new recording folder should be empty, with its parent already mounted; existing recordings stay playable where they are. Local detection works without an AI provider, and the AI agent stays off until it is enabled in Settings → AI agent.
- Open the recorder's address,
https://with port 3099, and install its certificate authority from Trust this recorder on the login page, checking that the device shows the SHA-256 fingerprint printed there. Set up this recorder creates the first administrator. There is no default username or password. The customer should create and keep this account. - In Settings → This recorder, check the version, and under Recorder clock set the time zone and confirm network time is synchronized. Schedules use the recorder's local time, and cameras take their zone and time from it.
- In Settings → Setup → Commissioning, save the site name, default recording mode, and connections reserved for the existing recorder and its users.
- In Settings → Storage & retention, select persistent recording storage and set retention. Check the projected capacity and any storage warnings.
- Open Add cameras, save the site's camera passwords, and scan. EverNVR tries each password on every camera it finds. Review the streams actually verified by the probe after adding the cameras.
- In Cameras, check the live picture, recording status, stream selections, and clock. Confirm the existing recorder continues to work while its users are viewing.
- Walk through the scene. Check Events and Playback for the visit and footage, then configure zones and rules.
- Configure delivery services and recipients. Send each test message and observe it on the destination device.
- Create staff accounts under Settings → Access. Grant cameras and export permission explicitly; a new Operator or Viewer has neither by default.
- Configure backups under Settings → Backups. Set a Backup passphrase and record it with the site's recovery material, or have the owner accept in so many words that the credential key travels in clear in every backup; the settings do not save until one or the other is done. Take a backup and arrange a copy outside the recorder. The configuration backup does not include footage.
- Review the commissioning report and complete the customer handoff. End any temporary installer access when the work is finished.
Keep a record of camera models, firmware, stream formats, session-limit evidence, storage, client devices, and the tests you observed. A successful stream probe is only one part of commissioning.
For day-to-day use, continue to live view and playback.
