EtherJax
EtherJax is firmware for small Ethernet boards that puts a USB device on the network. Each board does one job, chosen in its settings:
| Role | Plug in | On the network |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder | a USB line-in adapter | an AES67 multicast audio stream |
| Decoder | a USB line-out adapter | plays an AES67 stream |
| Serial server | a USB RS-232/RS-485 adapter | each port as a TCP socket (raw or RFC 2217) |
| USB/IP server | any USB device | the device, attached by a Linux or Windows host as if it were plugged in there |
The audio roles are a poor man's Dante: analog audio over Ethernet as standard AES67 (24-bit, 48 kHz, 1 ms packets, PTPv2 clock, SAP announcements). Encoders and decoders interoperate with each other and with AES67 equipment such as Dante devices in AES67 mode.
Every board has its own web page for status and settings, and a Matrix page that routes audio across every board on the network.

- Setting up a board: check the requirements, flash the firmware, then do the first setup.
- Audio: set up an encoder and a decoder, then route them with the matrix. Read network requirements before going live.
- Serial and USB devices: the serial server and the USB/IP server.
- Keeping boards running: admin password, firmware updates, and health and self-healing.
