BacBus Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the BacBus mobile app ("BacBus", "the app") handles information. BacBus is published by Harness Automation ("we", "us"). It applies to the iOS and Android versions of BacBus.

The short version​

BacBus is a field utility, not a data product. It has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no servers of our own. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal information. The app works almost entirely on your device and your local network.

The only information that ever leaves your device is what's required to process an optional in-app purchase (BacBus Pro), which is handled by the app store and our payments provider — never by us directly.

What BacBus does not collect​

  • No name, email address, phone number, or account credentials.
  • No advertising identifiers; no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
  • No analytics, usage statistics, or behavioral profiling.
  • No crash/diagnostic reporting SDKs.
  • No location data.
  • We operate no backend service, so device or network data you scan is never transmitted to Harness Automation.

Information the app handles​

Local network data (stays on your device)​

BacBus's core function is to discover and communicate with BACnet/IP and Modbus/TCP equipment on the network your phone is connected to. To do this it sends and receives traffic (UDP broadcasts, TCP connections) only to devices on your local network. Device addresses, object lists, and live values you read are processed on your device for display and are not sent to us or any third party. Apple's Local Network permission is required for this; see Permissions below.

Data stored on your device​

BacBus saves a small amount of data locally, using the operating system's standard app storage, to make the app usable between sessions:

  • Your most recent Modbus connection settings (host, port, unit ID).
  • A flag recording whether you've unlocked BacBus Pro.

This data stays on your device, is not backed up to us, and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Files you export (BacBus Pro)​

If you export scan results to CSV, the file is created on your device. It is only shared if you choose to share it, through your operating system's standard share sheet, to a destination you select. We never receive these files.

Purchases (BacBus Pro)​

BacBus Pro is an optional one-time purchase. Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we never see or store your payment card or billing details. To manage entitlements (so the app knows you've purchased Pro and can restore it on a new device), we use RevenueCat, which receives a randomly generated, anonymous app identifier and the purchase/receipt information from the store. This is not linked to your name or any account, because BacBus has no accounts.

Third-party services​

BacBus relies on these providers only for the purposes described above. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies:

Permissions​

  • Local Network (iOS) / network access (Android) — required so BacBus can discover and talk to BACnet and Modbus devices on the network you're connected to. BacBus uses this strictly for on-device building-automation communication; it is not used to collect or transmit any information about you.

Data retention and deletion​

Because we hold no personal data and operate no servers, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side. Data stored locally by the app is removed when you uninstall BacBus. To remove purchase records held by the app store or RevenueCat, contact the respective provider; purchase history retention is governed by their policies and applicable law.

Children's privacy​

BacBus is a professional tool intended for building-automation and facilities work. It is not directed to children, and it does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Security​

BacBus minimizes risk by design: it keeps your data on your device and does not transmit personal information to us. Local network communication uses the protocols of the equipment you connect to (BACnet/IP, Modbus/TCP).

Your rights​

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information held about you. Since BacBus collects no personal information and we maintain no user records, we typically hold nothing to act on. For any data held by our payment or entitlement providers, please contact them directly, or reach us using the details below and we'll help where we can.

Changes to this policy​

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date. Continued use of BacBus after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
